Background:
At the age of 19, instead of studying film - two friends and I (somehow) gathered up 30 000$ and a small team to shoot this epic 32 min short film. It took 3 years to make, from writing to shooting to editing on 16mm.
Synopsis:
Two independent stories link up through a miscommunicated message on an answering machine. The two protagonists of the story are not where they want to be in life, one chooses to blame himself while the other blames everyone around him. One is in B&W while the other is in color. One in French, the other in English. Surreal and ambiguous, Hopeful Losers openly wears it’s cinematic influences on its sleeve. A teenagers love letter to Lynch, Godard and Jarmusch.
